Who it helps

Two people, or more, who love each other

Partners, exes who stayed close, housemates, co-parents, a chosen family: you decide who counts, and who comes.

  • Eighty minutes

Long enough that everyone has time to speak.

  • However you are related

Two partners, three, or a household. Tell us who is coming.

  • Kept private

We explain in writing, before you start, what each person can expect from us.

Method

How the work goes

  • Everyone is heard

Your clinician makes room for each person, and slows a conversation down when it speeds up.

  • No sides

We work with the relationship, not against any one person in it.

  • Your structure

Nobody is asked to fit a model of what a couple or a family should look like.

What this is not

  • Not a ruling

We do not decide who is right, and we do not tell you to stay or leave.

  • Not for harm at home

If someone in your home is hurting you, call 911 or one of the lines on our help page first. Couples sessions are not the place to start.

  • Not a report

We do not write letters for custody, immigration or court.

Pace and payment

  • How often and how long

Eighty minutes, usually every week or two. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and we do not promise a number of sessions.

  • One fee covers the session, given in writing before you start. Your plan may reimburse part of it; we give you a monthly receipt.

  • Everyone who wants to. If someone cannot make it, they can join by video from anywhere in California.

Three questions about relationships and chosen family

Do we both have to come?

For the first session, at least two of you do. After that, we will talk about who needs to be in the room.

Can a chosen family come, not just partners?

Yes. Tell us who is coming and how you know each other, and we will plan the time.

What if one of us is not sure about therapy?

That is common. The first session is a chance to see how we work. Nobody has to commit to more.

Ready to bring everyone?

Write to us, or ask for a 15-minute call about fit.
