Who it helps

Adults who are tired of translating

Queer, trans, nonbinary or still working it out, and a person of color: people come to us when they want to talk without first explaining themselves.

  • Fifty minutes

In person in Oakland, or by video if you are in California.

  • Conversation, not a script

Your clinician listens, asks, and follows what matters to you.

  • Kept private

We keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.

Method

How the work goes

  • Relational and strengths-based

Both clinicians work from what is already working in your life and in your relationships, not from a checklist of what is wrong.

  • Your words for it

We use the names and language you use for yourself, your body and the people around you.

  • Your pace

You decide what to bring and when. Nothing is a test, and you can say pass to any question.

What this is not

  • Not a place to prove anything

No one asks you to justify your gender, your family or your culture.

  • Not medication care

We do not prescribe. If you want to talk to someone about medication, we will help you find them.

  • Not crisis care

We are not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 988; in an emergency, call 911.

Pace and payment

  • How often and how long

Many people start weekly. Some move to every other week. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and we do not promise a number of sessions.

  • You pay for each session yourself. Your fee is given in writing before you start, and a Good Faith Estimate is available on request.

  • In person at our Uptown Oakland office or by video from anywhere in California.

Three questions about individual therapy

Do I have to talk about my gender or sexuality?

No. You bring what you want to bring. Some people come for something else entirely.

Can I choose my clinician?

Yes. After the fit call we will tell you who has room and why we suggest one of us, and you decide.

What if it does not feel right?

Tell us, in the session or by message. We would rather change something than have you quietly leave.

Ready to talk?

Write to us, or ask for a 15-minute call about fit.
